Modi Inaugurates Andhra Pradesh’s New Greenfield Airport
Prime Minister Narendra Modi opened a new big airport in Andhra Pradesh called Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport.
It was built very fast by a company called GMR Group and will let millions of people travel each year.
The airport is part of a big plan to grow the state’s economy.
The project started when a different political party was in power, slowed down, and finished after the original leaders came back.
People say the state still needs a good road to connect the airport to the city so everyone can use it easily.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the Alluri Sitarama Raju International Airport (ASRIA) in Andhra Pradesh.
The 2,200‑acre greenfield airport, built by GMR Group in 31 months, will handle 6 million passengers per year, expandable to 40 million.
The airport is part of the $52 billion Visakhapatnam Economic Region aimed at boosting Andhra Pradesh’s growth.
The project was started under the 2014 NDA, stalled during YSR Congress rule, and completed after Naidu returned to power in 2024.
State officials say improved connectivity, such as an expressway, is needed to fully realize the airport’s potential.
