Reward-Carrying Rape-Murder Accused Killed in UP Police Encounter
Early in the morning, police officers in a city called Bulandshahr were checking vehicles when they saw two men on a motorcycle without a number plate.
The officers asked them to stop, but instead the men fired a gun at the police.
The police fired back, and one of the men was badly hurt.
He was rushed to a health centre and then to a bigger hospital, but the doctors could not save him.
The other man ran away in the dark, and the police are still looking for him.
The man who died was named Monu.
The police say Monu hurt and killed a young girl, and they had offered a reward of Rs 50,000 for information that could catch him.
Two police officers were also hurt during the shooting, while bulletproof vests protected two other officers.
The police found a gun, bullets, and the motorcycle at the scene.
Monu, accused of the rape and murder of a minor girl, was shot dead in a police encounter near Chhaprawat on the Bulandshahr-Gulaothi road in the early hours of Sunday.
Police said the two motorcycle-borne suspects opened fire when signalled to stop during a routine check; one was killed and the other escaped in the darkness.
The deceased carried a Rs 50,000 reward and had seven criminal cases registered against him across Bulandshahr, Aligarh, Bareilly, and Gautam Buddh Nagar districts.
Sub-Inspector Sandeep Kumar and Constable Narendra Kumar of the SWAT team were injured, while bullets struck the bulletproof jackets of two station in-charges.
Police recovered a .32-bore pistol, two magazines, live and empty cartridges, and a numberless motorcycle; a search is on for the absconding accomplice.
