Surat Police arrest 24 externed offenders in Operation Tadipaar
Sometimes, police can tell a person who has been in serious trouble to stay out of a city for some time.
This rule is called an externment order.
In the city of Surat in India, police learned that some people who were told to stay away had come back anyway.
So the police launched a special operation called 'Operation Tadipaar' on the orders of the city's police commissioner.
Police teams checked 80 people across different parts of the city and found 24 who were not supposed to be there.
These people had earlier been linked to serious offences such as assault, rioting and cattle-related cases.
All 24 were arrested for violating their externment orders, and cases were filed against them under the Gujarat Police Act.
The police say they will keep running such drives to enforce the rules and keep the city peaceful.
Surat Police's Special Operations Group arrested 24 people in 'Operation Tadipaar' for allegedly violating externment orders.
The drive was ordered by Police Commissioner Wabang Jamir after externed persons were found re-entering the city.
Police checked 80 people from a list of 167 externed persons received from the Prevention of Crime Branch (PCB).
Separate cases under Section 142 of the Gujarat Police Act were registered against the 24 accused at various police stations.
Officials said similar special drives and combing operations will continue to enforce externment orders and protect public peace.
