India Shifts Ethanol Strategy Beyond E20 Toward Flex-Fuel Vehicles
India currently mixes ethanol into petrol to reduce the amount of regular fuel needed.
The current focus has been on petrol containing up to 20% ethanol, called E20.
Tarun Kapoor said the government wants to use even more ethanol in the future.
Cars would then need to be built as flex-fuel vehicles.
These vehicles can run on petrol containing different amounts of ethanol.
Simply changing the fuel at petrol stations would not be enough.
Kapoor said India is already producing more ethanol than needed for its current blending targets.
This is why the government is considering vehicles that can use higher ethanol blends.
