Nepal Details Government Response to Devastating Flash Floods

Severe flash floods struck parts of northern Nepal around 8:30 a.m.

on August 26.

Prime Minister Balen Shah said rescuing people was the government's first priority.

Officials called a meeting and prepared helicopters and rescue teams during the morning.

Army helicopters were sent to help people in the affected areas.

Rescuers gave special priority to women, children and older people.

The government said 11,993 people had been rescued so far.

It also said 3,916 people were still missing.

Relief trucks, emergency money and a special search team were arranged to help those affected.
