Delhi’s 2047 Plan Balances Development, Ecology and Heritage
Delhi is planning how to grow while protecting nature and history.
The plan says rivers, forests, parks and wetlands are important parts of the city’s infrastructure.
It proposes restoring parts of the Yamuna floodplains and the Delhi Ridge.
Pollution would be addressed by treating drains and improving sewage systems.
A cycling route and walking paths could help people visit the river safely.

The Master Plan for Delhi 2047 proposes an interconnected Green-Blue network linking the Yamuna, Ridge, forests, parks, wetlands and open spaces.
Nearly 1,700 hectares of Yamuna floodplains are proposed for protection, conservation and ecological restoration.
The plan targets ecological restoration of approximately 7,784 hectares of the Delhi Ridge using native species and scientific ecosystem management.
Around 1,500 heritage assets could be covered by Cultural Resource Management Plans and supported through adaptive reuse and financial incentives.
Proposed heritage circuits, public spaces and a 52-kilometre cycling corridor aim to connect Delhi’s environmental and cultural assets with residents and visitors.
