Jammu and Kashmir warned of heavy rain, flash flood risk
The weather office in Srinagar told people in Jammu and Kashmir to get ready for a lot of rain.
Some places could get very heavy rain, and others could see short bursts of very hard rain.
When the rain falls this hard, hillsides can become slippery, and mud and rocks can slide down.
Small rivers and streams can also fill up very fast and flood the land around them.
The heaviest rain is expected between August 16 and 19.
Between August 13 and 15, many places may get light or medium rain and thunderstorms.
From August 20 to 22, just a little rain may fall in some scattered places.
Before this warning, Pulwama already received 57.5 millimeters of rain in one day.
People who live near hills or streams should be extra careful.
The Meteorological Centre Srinagar issued a weather advisory warning of spells of heavy to torrential rain in parts of Jammu and Kashmir.
Torrential rain and brief intense showers could trigger flash floods, landslides and mudslides, particularly in vulnerable and hilly areas.
Heavy rain and brief intense heavy showers are likely in a few districts of the Jammu division between August 16 and 19.
Light to moderate rain and thundershowers are expected at many places from August 13 to 15, with scattered light rain from August 20 to 22.
Pulwama recorded 57.5 mm of rain, Poonch 53 mm, Awantipora 47.8 mm and Rajouri 44 mm in the preceding 24 hours.
