BMC Demolishes Illegal Commercial Structures On Residential Plots

In the city of Bhopal, some people turned their homes into shops and businesses even though the land was only supposed to have houses on it.

The city government, called the Bhopal Municipal Corporation, says that is against the rules.

The Supreme Court, the highest court in India, had told cities to stop this kind of illegal building.

So the city sent workers with big machines called JCBs to knock down the shops and houses that were built without proper permission.

The owners of these buildings said they had permission from the village leader, called the Sarpanch.

But the paper they showed did not have a permission number or a date, so the city did not believe it.

The buildings were also bigger than what is allowed for residential plots.

Because the owners could not fix the problem, the city demolished the structures.

It also rained a lot, which made it harder for the city to check other buildings across Bhopal.

The city will keep working to make sure everyone follows the building rules.
