NIA arrests another accused in Punjab VHP leader murder case
A team of police investigators called the NIA caught another person who they think helped in a very serious crime.
The crime was the killing of a community leader named Vikas Prabhakar in a town called Nangal in Punjab.
The person caught is named Manveer Ram alias Ashu.
He was stopped at the airport in Amritsar when he tried to travel, because the officers were looking for him.
The NIA believes he was hired to get guns for the people who planned the killing.
They say the plan was made by people living in Germany who belong to a group called Babbar Khalsa International.
Manveer Ram was living in the UAE and helped connect the planners abroad with helpers inside India.
The NIA has been working on this case since May 2024 and has written up their evidence in court papers.
Now Manveer Ram will be taken to a special court for more legal steps.
The National Investigation Agency (NIA) arrested Manveer Ram alias Ashu in the killing of VHP leader Vikas Prabhakar in Punjab's Nangal.
He was detained by immigration authorities at Amritsar International Airport on Thursday on the basis of a Look Out Circular issued by the NIA.
The NIA took over the investigation on May 9, 2024, and has filed a chargesheet along with two supplementary chargesheets.
Investigators say the conspiracy to eliminate Prabhakar was hatched by Germany-based handlers of the proscribed Babbar Khalsa International (BKI), identified as Harjit Singh alias Laddi and Kulbeer Singh alias Sidhu.
Manveer Ram was recruited to arrange firearms and, operating from the UAE, acted as a link between the foreign-based conspirators and their operatives in India.
