Bangladesh renews push for Hasina's extradition as envoy meets PM
Sheikh Hasina used to be the leader of a country called Bangladesh.
In 2024, many students protested against her, and she had to leave her country and go to India.
Now the new leader of Bangladesh wants her to come back so she can face the law.
Bangladesh asked India to help send her back, and they asked again at a recent meeting.
The leaders of both countries met in Dhaka to talk about this and other important things.
Bangladesh is also asking India to send back people it says hurt a student leader named Shahid Osman Hadi.
Hasina recently talked to reporters from India and said she wants to return home in December to make things right.
Bangladesh was not happy about her words, but India said it was not part of that event.
The two countries are trying to stay friendly even though they disagree.
Bangladesh renewed its request for India to expedite the extradition of former Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina during High Commissioner Dinesh Trivedi's first meeting with Prime Minister Tarique Rahman in Dhaka on Monday.
Hasina has been in India since her ouster in August 2024 amid student-led protests and was sentenced to death in absentia in November 2025 for alleged crimes against humanity.
Dhaka also asked India to return suspects in the December 2025 murder of student leader Shahid Osman Hadi; three suspects arrested in India in March are in judicial custody in West Bengal.
Bangladesh expressed outrage over Hasina's August 5 virtual media interaction in New Delhi, in which she said she is determined to return home in December to restore democracy despite risking imprisonment or a death sentence.
India's Ministry of External Affairs said on August 7 it had no role in the August 5 event, which was organized by a private media organization, and does not endorse any views expressed there.
