Congress seeks month-long extension for Karnataka voter verification
Before elections, officials check the list of people who are allowed to vote.
In the Indian state of Karnataka, they are doing a special check called the Special Intensive Revision, or SIR.
They are looking at a list of about 5.54 crore voters.
Out of those, about 1.08 crore people are listed as absent, shifted, dead, duplicate, or other, which is called the ASDDO list.
That is almost one-fifth of all the voters on the list.
The Congress party is worried that some real voters might be removed from the list by mistake.
So Congress wrote a letter to the Election Commission of India asking for more time.
They want officials to keep checking homes for at least one more month.
They asked for this check to continue until 17 September 2026.
The letter was sent by Congress leader Ramesh Babu to the Chief Election Commissioner.
