CIDCO Details NAINA’s Airport-Led Planned Growth Vision For Region
Navi Mumbai International Airport has started operating flights and cargo services.
Officials want the area around it, called NAINA, to grow like the planned city of Navi Mumbai.
The airport is expected to handle up to 90 million passengers each year after expansion.
A second runway and more cargo facilities are planned.
A proposed Metro route called the Golden Line could connect the two Mumbai airports.
CIDCO is also planning offices, hotels, restaurants, universities and hospitals nearby.
NAINA includes 95 villages, and another planned area called KSC New Town includes 124 villages.
Officials say they must carefully check land boundaries so roads and new buildings do not overlap existing homes or other structures.
CIDCO is also working on affordable homes and supporting facilities for new universities and hospitals.
CIDCO chief Ashwin Mudgal said NAINA is intended to develop as a planned city around Navi Mumbai International Airport.
The operational airport is being developed in three phases, with a second runway, expanded cargo capacity and more ground-handler capacity planned.
Proposed Metro Line 8, or the Golden Line, would connect Navi Mumbai International Airport with Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport.
NAINA covers 95 villages, while Karnala-Sai-Chirner New Town covers 124 villages east and north-east of the airport.
CIDCO is planning airport-linked AeroCity, EduCity and MediCity developments alongside infrastructure and affordable housing.
