India Ranks Fifth as Generative AI Patenting Accelerates Globally

China led with 43,383 AI patent filings in 2024 and 2025, accounting for more than 70% of global generative AI patents.
The United States and Japan followed China, while South Korea and India completed the top five.
Large language model patents overtook generative adversarial network patents, with 20,900 versus 18,800 patent families published from 2014 to 2025.
