Bombay High Court Orders Stronger Mumbai Garbage Management
The Bombay High Court told Mumbai’s civic authority to improve how it handles garbage.
The court wants streets, footpaths and public places to be kept cleaner.
It was especially concerned about garbage trucks being parked in inappropriate places.
The civic body said a contractor was penalized after trucks were found near the City Civil Court.
Officials were also given notices and asked to follow the court’s instructions.
People have complained less about bad smells from the Kanjurmarg dumping site.
Those complaints fell from about 500 to about 24.
However, the court said reducing smells is not enough because garbage is still seen in public places.
The case will be heard again on August 24, 2026.
The Bombay High Court directed the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation to strictly follow earlier garbage-management orders.
The court ordered action to prevent garbage vehicles from causing nuisance near heritage sites and public spaces.
Penalties and show-cause notices were issued after vehicles were found parked opposite the City Civil Court on August 14.
Complaints about foul odour from the Kanjurmarg dumping site reportedly fell from about 500 to around 24.
The court also raised concerns about garbage entering nullahs, reaching the sea and washing onto beaches during monsoon.
