RWS Deputy Engineer Sentenced One Year in Bribery Case
A government engineer was found guilty in a bribery case.
A contractor wanted money returned after finishing eight construction projects.
The engineer allegedly asked the contractor for ₹20,000 to process the paperwork.
The contractor reported this to anti-corruption officials.
Officials caught the engineer accepting the money on November 4, 2011.
The court in Rajamahendravaram sentenced him to one year in prison.
He must also pay a ₹5,000 fine, or serve two more months in jail.
The anti-corruption agency filed its formal case papers in 2014.
A Rajamahendravaram court sentenced RWS deputy executive engineer Gunja Ananda Babu to one year in jail.
The court also imposed a fine of ₹5,000, with two additional months in jail for nonpayment.
Ananda Babu allegedly demanded ₹20,000 from contractor Dasari Srinivas to process deposit-release applications.
ACB officials trapped and arrested him on November 4, 2011, while he was accepting the bribe.
The ACB filed a chargesheet in 2014; Ananda Babu currently works at the chief engineer’s office in Mangalagiri.
