Fadnavis orders earthquake risk assessment in Nashik and Palghar
Have you ever felt the ground shake?
That shaking is called an earthquake.
In the state of Maharashtra in India, people in the Nashik and Palghar districts felt the ground shake several times recently.
On Saturday night, a shake rated 4.3 happened, and a smaller one followed on Sunday morning.
On Monday night, two more shakes hit Palghar.
Some houses got small cracks in their walls, and scared people rushed outside.
The Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, asked experts to study the shaking of the ground very carefully.
He also asked them to teach people, especially students, how to stay safe during earthquakes.
That way, everyone can know what to do if the ground shakes again.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday ordered a comprehensive seismic risk assessment in Nashik and Palghar districts.
A 4.3-magnitude earthquake struck Nashik on Saturday night, followed by a 3.3-magnitude tremor on Sunday morning at a depth of 5 km.
The tremors caused cracks in house walls at Bhadar in Surgana taluka and Nanashi in Dindori taluka, about 180 km from Mumbai.
Two 3.4-magnitude tremors struck Palghar's Jawhar taluka on Monday night, also at a depth of 5 km.
Fadnavis directed that additional institutions join the ongoing Centre for Seismic Technology study and that awareness drives, including for students, be intensified.
