Nashik Records 64 Tremors In A Month; Experts Advise Monitoring

Nashik, a city in India, has been feeling lots of small earthquakes.

In one month, people there felt 64 small tremors, and three more happened in just one day.

The strongest of these was a 4.3 earthquake, which made many people worried.

Deep underground, there is a long crack in the earth called a fault zone, about 30 kilometers long.

When the ground moves along this crack, it releases pressure that has built up under the earth's surface.

This release of pressure is what causes the tremors.

The earthquakes are happening only about 5 kilometers deep, which is why people feel them so strongly.

Scientists say this is a natural process and the small earthquakes might actually make a bigger earthquake less likely.

They believe the shaking may continue for about another month.

Experts say people should not panic, but the area should be watched closely for now.
