Uttam Directs Officials to Resolve Gouravelli Project Delays
N. Uttam Kumar Reddy wants officials to clear the remaining problems holding up the Gouravelli irrigation project.
These include approvals, acquiring land and helping people affected by the project.
The project is in Siddipet district.
It is meant to bring irrigation water to farms across 1.06 lakh acres.
The reservoir is almost 98 per cent finished.
However, water also needs canals and smaller channels to reach the fields.
The project began under the Congress government in undivided Andhra Pradesh.
Its planned reservoir capacity was later increased, but required approvals and clearances were not secured.
Irrigation Minister N. Uttam Kumar Reddy directed officials to resolve outstanding issues so the Gouravelli project can be completed.
Issues include pending approvals, land acquisition and rehabilitation, which he said must be addressed within a set timeframe.
The project is in Akkannapet mandal of Siddipet district and forms part of the Indiramma Flood Flow Canal from the Sriram Sagar Project.
Its intended ayacut is 1.06 lakh acres; reservoir capacity was increased from 1.410 TMC to 8.230 TMC.
Reservoir works are nearly 98 per cent complete, but canals and distributaries must also be completed to deliver water to fields.
