Madhuri the Elephant Returns to Kolhapur After Vantara Treatment
Madhuri is an elephant who has lived in Kolhapur for more than 30 years.
She was taken to Vantara in Jamnagar because she was very sick and had trouble walking.
Her problems included arthritis, foot disease and injuries linked to years of restricted movement.
At Vantara, veterinarians and caregivers treated her with therapies, special food and careful foot care.
She also spent time with other elephants in a safe place.
This helped her body and emotions recover.
A committee checked her health and approved her return.
She will travel to Kolhapur in a special ambulance with medical staff accompanying her.
Madhuri is returning to Nandani Math in Kolhapur after more than a year of treatment at Vantara.
She arrived at Vantara with advanced arthritis, chronic foot rot and severe mobility problems.
Her rehabilitation included hydrotherapy, laser therapy, specialised foot care, targeted nutrition and continuous monitoring.
Madhuri also received emotional rehabilitation through safe social interaction with other elephants.
A Supreme Court-appointed High Powered Committee assessed her recovery, after which approvals and transit permits were granted for her return.
