GHMC Launches IEC Drive to Combat Rainy Season Vector-Borne Diseases
The rainy season can bring diseases spread by mosquitoes and other pests.
To stop these diseases, the city corporation of Hyderabad started a big awareness campaign.
The campaign is called an IEC drive, which means sharing information to help people stay safe.
The leader of the corporation, R.V. Karnan, told his health workers to work harder in the field.
The campaign especially talks about how to stop dengue, a disease spread by mosquitoes.
It also supports a special day called 'Friday dry day' to keep places clean.
People can report health problems like dog bites, diarrhoea, and jaundice using a special QR code.
This reporting system is run by the National Centre for Disease Control.
A minister named Ponnam Prabhakar launched the campaign and asked everyone to take part.
The goal is for everyone in the city to work together to stay healthy during the rains.
GHMC commissioner R.V. Karnan directed entomology staff to intensify field-level activities for vector-borne disease prevention in the rainy season.
The awareness and information, education and communication (IEC) initiatives were developed by the corporation's Metropolitan Surveillance Unit (MSU) and launched on Saturday.
The campaign focuses on dengue prevention and the 'Friday dry day', along with the Integrated Disease Surveillance Project (IDSP).
IDSP is an initiative of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC); dog bites, recurring diarrhoea and jaundice can be reported via a QR Code on the health ministry or NCDC website.
Transport minister Ponnam Prabhakar, who launched the initiatives, emphasised on citizen participation.
