India expands e-visa network to 88 ports with 11 additions
India lets people from other countries visit using something called an e-visa.
An e-visa is a travel permission you can get online before you arrive.
The government just added 11 new places where people with e-visas can enter India.
These new places include nine land border crossings and two airports.
Now there are 88 places in total where e-visa holders can enter the country.
The government says this makes it easier for travellers from all over the world.
About 95 out of every 100 e-visa applications are processed within three days.
India started the e-visa facility in 2014 for people from 43 countries.
Today people from 172 countries can use it for things like tourism, business, medical care and study.
However, people from Pakistan still cannot use e-visas and must get a regular visa instead.
India's Ministry of Home Affairs notified 11 additional international entry points, taking the total number of e-visa entry ports to 88.
The additions comprise nine land ports and two airports; the 88 total includes 37 airports, 38 seaports and 13 land ports.
New land ports include Attari on the India-Pakistan border, Darranga, Gede, Ghojadanga, Haridaspur, Jaigaon, Dawki and Moreh, with Agartala also listed in some reports; the new airports are Bhopal and Tirupati.
About 95% of e-visa applications are processed within 72 hours, and e-visas account for roughly 78% of all visas issued by India.
Launched in 2014 for nationals of 43 countries, the e-visa facility now serves citizens of 172 countries across 17 categories, but Pakistani passport holders must apply for a regular visa at an Indian Mission.
