Sukhbir Badal discharged from Nanded hospital after kirpan attack
Sukhbir Singh Badal is an important leader in India.
He leads a political party called the Shiromani Akali Dal.
Someone attacked him with a kirpan, which is a kind of Sikh dagger.
The attack happened inside a gurdwara, a Sikh place of worship, in a town called Nanded.
Badal was taken to a hospital, where doctors operated on him for about an hour and a half.
The doctors fixed a hurt tendon and nerve in his arm.
They said he was out of danger.
The next day, Badal was discharged and headed home to Punjab.
Police arrested a man named Jaspal Singh for the attack.
Police say they still do not know why he did it.
Shiromani Akali Dal chief Sukhbir Singh Badal was discharged from Yashosai Hospital in Nanded on Friday after undergoing surgery.
Badal was attacked with a kirpan inside Gurdwara Mata Sahib Devan Ji Mugat on the outskirts of Nanded on Thursday.
The about 90-minute surgery repaired a tendon injury and a sharp penetrating wound; doctors said he was out of danger.
The accused, Jaspal Singh, a Pune-based sewadar aged 60-62, was booked under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for attempt to murder and related charges.
Police said they have yet to find out why the accused attacked Badal, who escaped another attack at the Golden Temple entrance in December 2024.
