US Approves Sanctions Bill Targeting India
Disquiet on Trump’s PM remark, but Delhi chooses not to react · indianexpress.com

The US President, Donald Trump, has approved a new law that will punish countries like India, China, and Brazil for buying cheap oil from Russia.

The US thinks this oil helps Russia continue its war in Ukraine.

India, however, says it buys Russian oil to keep its own fuel prices low and ensure it has enough energy.

The US has also put high taxes on goods from India to try to get it to stop buying Russian oil.

India has reduced its oil purchases from Russia but says it will keep making decisions based on what's best for its own people.

The new law could be voted on in the US Congress next week.
