Jammu and Kashmir High Court Quashes Detention Over Facebook Post
Jammu and Kashmir High Court quashes detention over ‘Lord Ram’ Facebook post · indianexpress.com

A court in Jammu and Kashmir cancelled the detention of a man accused of posting hateful material online.

Police said he insulted Lord Ram and mocked women observing Karwa Chauth.

They also cited several criminal cases and alleged that he could disturb peace between religious and caste groups.

The man’s lawyers said officials waited too long before ordering his detention.

They also said officials did not tell the detaining authority that he had received pre-arrest bail.

The court said this delay and missing information made the detention legally unfair.

The court believed the detention may have been used to get around the bail decision.

It therefore set aside the detention order.
