People in the city of Bhiwandi will see higher electricity bills this August.

The power companies are adding special extra charges called Fuel Adjustment Charges, or FAC, to the bills.

The extra amount depends on how much electricity a person uses.

Homes that use up to 100 units will pay 20 paise more per unit.

Homes that use more than 500 units will pay 60 paise more per unit.

Families living below the poverty line will pay only 10 paise extra per unit.

Factories, shops and electric vehicle charging stations must also pay extra charges.

A leader of the Bhiwandi Powerloom Organisation, Tirupati V. Siripuram, says this will raise the cost of making products.

He is asking people to carefully check their electricity bills.

He believes many people do not understand all the charges on their bills.
