Puducherry’s government has announced a large plan to improve the region.

It wants to expand the airport so bigger airplanes can fly there.

New industrial zones may bring investments and create many jobs.

Other projects will improve water supply, sanitation, roads and drainage.

A coastal project will help protect the shoreline and support fisheries and tourism.

The government also increased some pensions and payments for women from poorer families.

Students received free learning materials and some received laptops.

Officials said the goal is to create a stronger and more developed Puducherry by 2047.

Overall receipts rose 8.51% to Rs 13,397.69 crore in 2025-26.
Own receipts
Puducherry’s own receipts increased 11.44% to Rs 7,631.53 crore.
Capital expenditure
Capital expenditure rose 71.09% to Rs 765.59 crore.
Airport expansion
The proposed modernisation and expansion is estimated to cost Rs 4,800 crore, with the runway extended to 2,300 metres.
Employment potential
The Thattanchavady IT/ITES SEZ and Karasur Multi-Modal SEZ are projected to create about 70,000 direct and indirect jobs combined.
Urban and coastal projects
The urban livability project is valued at Rs 4,750 crore, while the coastal resilience project is valued at Rs 1,433 crore.
Welfare increase
Monthly old-age and destitute pensions rose by Rs 500 across categories; assistance for women heads of BPL families increased to Rs 2,500.
