Uttar Pradesh Cancels 944 Hectares Allotted To Power Companies
The Uttar Pradesh government had given two companies land to build thermal power plants.
The land was located in Kanpur Dehat.
The companies were supposed to start building within three years of receiving it.
The government says they did not start the projects even after many years.
It also says the companies used the land as security for bank loans without permission.
Officials sent notices asking the companies to explain these actions.
The companies did not provide a response within the required time.
The government has now ordered that the land be returned to the state and recorded in government records.
The Uttar Pradesh government ordered cancellation of 944.029 hectares allotted to Lanco Anpara Power and Himavat Power in Kanpur Dehat.
The land was allotted in 2011 for thermal power projects, but construction had not begun after more than 15 years.
The companies allegedly mortgaged the land to banks without obtaining required state government permission.
Show-cause notices issued on May 25, 2026, reportedly received no response within the stipulated 15 days.
An August 25, 2026, order directed that the land be recorded in the name of the state and Energy Department.
