Kharghar Hill Mayor Marathon Draws 9,000 Runners in Panvel
About 9,000 people took part in a large running event in Panvel.
The event was called the Kharghar Hill Mayor Marathon.
It included a very long 42-kilometre race and shorter races for different runners.
Children, students, women, senior citizens and government officials participated.
Around 100 people with disabilities joined a special race.
Nine visually impaired runners took part in the 21-kilometre race.
Doctors, physiotherapists and ambulances were placed along the routes.
Organisers hope the marathon will encourage healthy living, sports and tourism in Panvel.
Around 9,000 runners from across Maharashtra participated in the Kharghar Hill Mayor Marathon on Sunday.
The Panvel Municipal Corporation billed the event as the country’s first full-distance 42-km hill marathon.
Five races were held: 42-km, 21-km, 10-km, 5-km and 3-km events.
About 100 participants joined a dedicated run for persons with disabilities, while nine visually impaired runners completed the 21-km race.
The event received Association of International Marathons and Distance Races certification and included medical support along its routes.
