Low-Pressure System Brings Heavy Rain Across Bengal Through September
A rainy weather system has formed over the Bay of Bengal.
It is moving toward Odisha and parts of West Bengal.
This system may bring heavy rain to Kolkata and many other districts.
The heaviest rain is expected between August 31 and September 2.
Some rain and thunderstorms may continue until September 6.
Strong winds, lightning and cloudy skies are also possible.
Water may collect temporarily in low places and underpasses.
Fishermen have been told not to go into the sea because the waves and winds may be dangerous.
A well-marked low-pressure area over the northwest Bay of Bengal is moving west-northwest across north Odisha and Gangetic West Bengal.
Heavy to very heavy rain is forecast in parts of Bengal from August 31 to September 2, with lighter rain likely through September 6.
East and West Midnapore, Jhargram, South 24-Parganas, Howrah, Bankura and Purulia are among the districts facing heavy rain.
Kolkata may experience cloudy skies, thunderstorms, lightning and gusty winds, while low-lying areas could see temporary waterlogging.
Fishermen were advised to stay out of the sea along the West Bengal and Odisha coasts because of squally winds reaching up to 60 kmph in gusts.
