West Bengal to issue monthly power bills from 2027
The Chief Minister of West Bengal, Suvendu Adhikari, announced that the state's power discom, WBSEDCL, will start issuing monthly power bills from January 2027 instead of the current three-month billing cycle.
This change is aimed at improving financial strength, transparency, and consumer convenience.
Smart meters will not be mandatory for domestic users.
The government will also initiate the process of listing the West Bengal Power Development Corporation Ltd (WBPDCL) on the stock market.
Additionally, the state will implement the PM-KUSUM scheme to promote renewable energy in agriculture, develop EV charging stations, and set up new power projects.
Under CSR initiatives, sanitary napkin vending machines will be installed in schools, and free electricity will be provided to ICDS centres.
