Bihar CM pays tributes to Quit India Movement martyrs
A long time ago, in 1942, India was still ruled by Britain, and many people wanted freedom.
A group of young students in Patna walked toward the government building to raise the Indian flag.
A British official ordered soldiers to shoot at them.
Seven teenage students lost their lives that day.
Every year on August 11, people in Bihar remember them.
This special day is called Seven Martyrs' Day.
This year, the Chief Minister of Bihar placed flowers on the statues of those brave students.
Many other leaders joined the ceremony too.
On the very same date in 1908, another young freedom fighter named Khudiram Bose was executed by the British.
This year, officials and his family gathered in Muzaffarpur to remember him as well.
Bihar Chief Minister Samrat Choudhary on Tuesday paid tributes to the seven martyrs of the 1942 Quit India Movement at Shaheed Smarak in Patna.
The ceremony marked the 84th anniversary of the August 11, 1942 firing on young students marching to the Patna secretariat to unfurl the Indian flag.
The seven teenage freedom fighters killed were Umakant Prasad Singh, Ramanand Singh, Satish Prasad Jha, Jagatpati Kumar, Devipada Chaudhary, Rajendra Singh and Ram Govind Singh.
The day is observed as 'Sapt Shaheed Diwas' (Seven Martyrs' Day) in Bihar, and Choudhary also offered a floral wreath at the 'Amar Jyoti' at Shaheed Park.
The Muzaffarpur district administration separately paid tributes to Khudiram Bose, executed at age 18 by the British Indian government on August 11, 1908, with his family members from West Bengal in attendance.
