Chlorine Leak at Nagpur Water Plant Hospitalizes Over 40
Chlorine gas escaped from a large cylinder at a water plant in Nagpur.

A chlorine leak began around 1 a.m. Monday at a 900-kilogram-capacity cylinder at a water treatment plant in Nagpur's Godhani area.
The gas spread into nearby residential areas, causing coughing and breathing difficulties among plant workers and residents.
Reports said more than 40 people fell ill or were hospitalized; police specified that about 40 were receiving treatment.
Police evacuated residents within 200 metres, cordoned off the area, and advised people to stay away while responders worked.
The leak was brought under control around 5:30 a.m. after responders submerged the cylinder in water mixed with caustic soda.
