India’s EV Sales Nearly Double as Competition Expands
More people in India bought electric cars in September than they did a year earlier.
Sales nearly doubled to about 35,000 cars.
Tata Motors sold the most electric cars, and Mahindra was second.
New companies such as VinFast and Maruti Suzuki are gaining customers quickly.
This means the market is becoming more competitive.
Other companies still sold more cars, but their shares of the market became smaller.
Electric cars made up 8.2% of all passenger vehicle registrations in September.
More models, better charging networks and higher fuel costs are helping sales grow.
The government has also extended an electric-vehicle support program through March 2028.
India’s electric passenger vehicle registrations rose 95% year on year to 34,894 units in September.
Electric cars represented 8.2% of passenger vehicle registrations, compared with 5.7% a year earlier.
Tata Motors led September sales with a 42.2% share, followed by Mahindra at 22.2%.
