Himachal Pradesh Plans Modern Sustainable Him-Chandigarh City Development
Himachal Pradesh plans to build a new city called Him-Chandigarh City.
It will be located near Shitalpur in Solan district.
The site is about 30 kilometres from Chandigarh.
The government says the city should be modern, well-planned and environmentally sustainable.
Land has already been allotted for housing.
More land has also been identified for the project.
Plans include a 9-kilometre riverfront along the Sarsa River.
The chief minister said the city could create jobs, economic activity and more revenue for the state.
Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu said Him-Chandigarh City will be developed in Solan district.
The proposed city will be located at Shitalpur, about 30 km from Chandigarh.
Officials have allotted 3,428 bighas for housing and identified another 5,000–6,000 bighas from a common pool.
The project is expected to include state-of-the-art infrastructure, civic amenities and a 9 km Sarsa River riverfront.
Sukhu directed officials to expedite formalities and improve road connectivity for the planned city.
