The Income Tax Department held many meetings to explain new tax rules.

There were 304 such programmes across the country since April 2026.

The meetings were for taxpayers, tax professionals and other interested groups.

Officials said the new system should make filing taxes simpler and clearer.

New tax forms are designed to be easier to use and partly filled in already.

More than 1.32 crore updated tax returns brought in extra tax payments through a government campaign.

The department also said many returns were processed quickly and millions of refunds were issued.

A new handbook called Changeover 2026 explains how the old and new tax laws connect.
