India had its best year ever for selling tractors.
Lots of farmers bought tractors.
But most farms in India are very small.
Big tractors are not useful on tiny plots of land.
Because of this, small machines like weeders and tillers are becoming more popular.
These small machines are also starting to run on batteries instead of diesel.
Electric motors are great for this because they give strong power right away and make less noise.
There are no electric combines yet because big machines need too much battery power.
The government is helping by lowering taxes and setting up hiring centres.
The future of farming in India is not just about tractors.
India's FY26 tractor wholesales hit 11,60,231 units, up 23.5%, and retail volumes crossed ten lakh for the first time.
Overall farm mechanisation in India remains stuck around 47%, against roughly 60% in China and 75% in Brazil.
Small walk-behind machines of 1.5 to 7 kW are the fastest-growing category, with power weeder sales up 52%.
A major Indian manufacturer unveiled its first electric power tiller and power weeder in November 2025.
Policy support includes a 5% GST rate on farm machinery since September 2025 and ₹9,404 crore spent on agricultural mechanisation since 2014-15.
