Govt extends Rs 1.50 power tariff to eligible aqua farms
Some people in a state called Andhra Pradesh grow fish and shrimp in big water farms.
These farms use a lot of electricity to keep the water clean and healthy.
Electricity bills can be very expensive for these farmers.
The state government has decided to make electricity cheaper for them.
Instead of paying the usual price, they will pay just one rupee and fifty paise for each unit of power.
This cheaper price starts on June 1, 2026.
About 6,500 farms can get this help right now, and more can join later.
To get the discount, farmers need to use their electricity wisely and reach a certain efficiency level by March 2027.
The government wants to help farmers save money and keep selling their fish and shrimp to other countries.
The Andhra Pradesh government extended the Rs 1.50 per unit concessional power tariff to all eligible aquaculture farms.
The concession covers farms in newly declared Aqua Zones and all farms registered under the APSADA and CAA Acts.
Around 6,500 currently registered aquaculture farms are expected to benefit from the expanded concession.
The tariff is effective from June 1, 2026, for farms achieving a power factor of 0.9 to 0.95 by March 2027.
The rate was first cut from Rs 3.86 to Rs 2 per unit in 2018, and to Rs 1.50 per unit from July 2019.
