Maharashtra Cabinet Approves Agriculture Department Restructuring, Sanctions 23,476 Posts
The government of the Indian state of Maharashtra decided to give its Agriculture Department a big makeover.
The department's job is to help farmers grow crops and take care of their farms.
Its old structure had not been changed for 17 years.
The Cabinet approved 23,476 jobs for the department, and many of them are brand new.
Some old jobs that were no longer needed were removed.
This will save the government about Rs 92.60 crore every year.
New teams will be created to work on farm machines and digital farming tools.
Another new team will help farmers deal with changes in the weather and climate.
The Agriculture Minister said this will make the department faster, smarter and more helpful to farmers.
The Maharashtra Cabinet approved a revised Agriculture Department organisational structure after 17 years, sanctioning 23,476 regular posts.
Of the sanctioned posts, 2,668 are newly created positions, while obsolete posts were abolished and some positions were reduced.
The restructuring is estimated to save Rs 92.60 crore annually.
New directorates were approved for Agricultural Mechanisation, Asset Management and AgriStack (63 posts) and Climate-Resilient and Sustainable Agriculture (35 posts).
Agriculture Minister Dattatray Bharane credited Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Deputy Chief Ministers Eknath Shinde and Sunetra Ajit Pawar for guiding the process.
