Over 1 Million Evacuated as Typhoon Dolphin Hits Eastern China
Have you ever seen a very strong storm with lots of wind and rain?
When that happens near Asia, it is called a typhoon.
A big typhoon named Dolphin blew into the eastern part of China.
It touched the land two times and brought heavy rain.
Because the storm was dangerous, more than one million people had to leave their homes to stay safe.
Airplanes and trains were stopped, and almost 1,000 flights were cancelled in the city of Shanghai.
Some places are already going back to normal, like the city of Ningbo, where flights started again.
Another big city called Beijing got warnings to watch out for heavy rain too.
The storm brought heavy rain and flooding, which is why people are very careful.
Scientists think storms may become stronger as the Earth gets warmer.
Typhoon Dolphin made two landfalls along the coast of Zhejiang province on Sunday and weakened, with the National Meteorological Centre (NMC) issuing its least severe typhoon alert on Monday morning.
More than one million people were evacuated across eastern China, including over 900,000 in Wenzhou, over 200,000 in Shanghai and over 150,000 in Fujian province.
Shanghai's two main passenger airports cancelled 943 flights, and public transport including many local trains was suspended in the financial hub.
Ningbo airport resumed flights and Hangzhou restored subway services on Monday, while five Beijing districts issued red alerts for heavy rain with landslide and flooding risks.
Scientists warn extreme weather events will grow more frequent and intense as the planet heats up, and China aims to make its economy carbon-neutral by 2060.
