IMD Flags Flash Flood And Landslide Risks As Monsoon Rains Continue
Heavy monsoon rain is falling in several parts of India.
The weather department has warned that some places could get extremely heavy rain.
Uttarakhand and parts of Himachal Pradesh may face flash floods and landslides.
Delhi and nearby cities have also seen waterlogging and traffic problems.
A building collapsed in Delhi, and rescuers were looking for people who might be trapped.
Officials have not said that rain caused the collapse.
In Sikkim, a landslide partly blocked two rivers, but no one was reported hurt.
The weather department says the whole country may get less rain than usual in September, even though some regions can still receive very heavy showers.
The India Meteorological Department warned of isolated very heavy rain in Uttarakhand, west Uttar Pradesh, sub-Himalayan West Bengal and Sikkim.
Uttarakhand and Himachal Pradesh face low-to-moderate flash-flood risks, with several districts placed under watch.
Delhi-NCR experienced rain, waterlogging and traffic disruption, while a building collapsed near Satya Niketan with people feared trapped.
A landslide in Sikkim partially blocked the Teesta and Chyakoong rivers, but no deaths or injuries were reported.
IMD said strong El Niño conditions are prevailing while September rainfall nationwide is expected to remain below normal.
