AAP retains narrow edge in tight Punjab 2027 poll race
A big survey asked thousands of people in Punjab, a state in India, about an election that will happen in 2027.
The survey company, called People's Pulse, talked to 8,000 people from all over the state.
It found that the party running the state right now, the Aam Aadmi Party, or AAP, is still the most popular.
If the election happened today, AAP might win about 58 to 63 seats out of 117.
That is close to the number needed to be in charge, but not quite.
The next biggest party, Congress, might win 36 to 43 seats.
The state's leader, Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, is the most liked choice to keep leading.
But many people are unhappy with their own local AAP leaders, which could hurt the party.
Voters said the biggest problems are drugs, no jobs, and farming troubles.
Because of this, the survey says the 2027 election is still very hard to predict.
People's Pulse survey projects AAP as the single largest party with 58-63 seats in the 117-member Punjab Assembly, close to the majority mark.
Congress is forecast to win 36-43 seats, with WPD at 4-7, BJP at 2-6 and SAD at 2-4 if all parties contest independently.
Vote-share estimates place AAP at 37 per cent, Congress at 31 per cent, WPD at 14 per cent, BJP at 8 per cent and SAD at 6 per cent.
Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is the most popular leader for the top post at 40 per cent, ahead of Charanjit Singh Channi (33 per cent) and Amritpal Singh (13 per cent).
The survey identifies anti-incumbency against many AAP MLAs as the party's biggest challenge, with drug abuse, unemployment and agricultural distress among the dominant election issues.
