Delhi Assembly Pilots AI Tool BHASHINI, a First in India
In India, there is a city called Delhi, and its rule-makers meet in a building called the Delhi Assembly.
On August 7, the Assembly started using a smart computer program called BHASHINI that can listen to people talk and write down their words automatically.
It can also translate what is said into different Indian languages.
The leader of the Assembly, Vijender Gupta, said Delhi is the first place in the whole country to try this AI tool during rule-making meetings.
BHASHINI is part of a bigger project started by the Indian government, launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in July 2022.
The project's goal is to help every citizen use the internet and government services in their own language.
The Assembly will test the program carefully to see how well it works.
If it works well, it may use similar smart programs in other parts of the Assembly too.

The trial involves careful review of transcription output and overall system performance, with any issues identified during the trial to be addressed.
Based on feedback, the solution will be refined and customised to the Assembly's operational requirements before any decision on wider deployment.
Subject to a successful pilot, the Assembly plans to explore similar AI-enabled solutions across its other functional branches.
