Assam launches Nijut Moina, Nijut Babu student stipend schemes
The government of Assam is giving money to students to help them study.
It has two big programs, one called Nijut Moina for girls and one called Nijut Babu for boys.
The money can be used for books, bus tickets, and other school needs.
Almost 7 lakh students may get help from these programs.
Girls and boys in higher secondary school, college, and university can receive the money.
The government wants to stop child marriage, so girls get more money than boys.
Students who attend classes regularly and work hard can receive the help.
The government also gave money to schools and students hurt by the recent floods in eastern Assam.
Children who lost their books and school things in the floods will get money to buy new ones.
The Chief Minister also wants students to study science and learn extra skills besides their main subject.
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma launched the distribution of application forms for the Nijut Moina, Nijut Babu and Shikhyarthee Sahayak Prayas (SSP) schemes across 452 educational institutions in Assam on Thursday.
Nearly 7 lakh students are expected to benefit from the flagship schemes, which provide scholarships of up to Rs 2,500 per month.
Nijut Moina aims to cover 10 lakh girls, with four lakh beneficiaries in 2025-26 and another one lakh expected this year; Nijut Babu will cover 1.2 lakh boys.
The government transferred Rs 15.86 crore to 793 flood-affected schools and over Rs 4.26 crore from the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for 21,025 students in eastern Assam.
Sarma said eradicating child marriage is the primary objective of Nijut Moina, with girls' assistance kept comparatively higher than boys'.
