Surat Man Receives Free Heart Transplant After Minister’s Help
Kishan Pethani had a very sick heart for nearly two years.
Doctors said he needed a heart transplant to survive.
He could not easily afford the treatment, so he asked Gujarat Health Minister Praful Pansheriya for help.
The minister recommended him to U.N. Mehta Heart Hospital in Ahmedabad.
Doctors performed the transplant on June 27.
Kishan recovered and said he could walk and run again.
Hospital staff celebrated his birthday with him during his recovery.

Thirty-seven-year-old Kishan Pethani of Surat underwent a free heart transplant at Ahmedabad’s U.N. Mehta Heart Hospital.
Doctors advised the transplant after his heart condition worsened despite treatment and two stents.
Health Minister Praful Pansheriya recommended Pethani’s case to the hospital because of his medical and financial difficulties.
The transplant was performed on June 27 under Dr Vishal Sharma by Dr Chirag Doshi and Dr Pratik Manek.
Pansheriya urged people to support organ donation, saying one brain-dead donor could potentially help dozens of recipients through organs and tissues.
