NCPI Muslim MPs join Modi breakfast amid Parliament disruption concerns
India's Prime Minister, Narendra Modi, invited more than forty members of Parliament to eat breakfast with him.
He wanted to talk to them about working together.
Mr. Modi said he was sad that Parliament meetings are often interrupted by loud protests.
Because of the noise, people could not hear the new lawmakers speak.
He asked the politicians to do yoga and get regular health checkups to stay strong.
A few politicians from the NCPI party who had skipped earlier meetings also joined the breakfast.
Some political parties are unhappy and are protesting about an exam paper leak and other issues.
Mr. Modi also wants to pass a new rule that would give more seats to women in Parliament.
To pass it, he needs more votes from other politicians, and he is not sure to get enough.
Some members of Parliament who changed parties have not yet promised to support him.
PM Modi hosted a breakfast meeting in New Delhi with more than 40 MPs from NDA constituents, including NCPI, Shiv Sena, RPI (Athawale), Rashtriya Lok Morcha, AIADMK and UPPL.
NCPI Muslim MPs Khalilur Rahaman, Yusuf Pathan and Abu Taher Khan, who had skipped two NDA meetings, attended after separately meeting Home Minister Amit Shah.
Modi expressed concern over repeated disruptions of Lok Sabha proceedings, saying the country could not hear its talented new MPs, and urged smooth functioning of Parliament.
Since the Monsoon session began on July 20, opposition protests have repeatedly disrupted Lok Sabha and six bills were passed without discussion.
The NDA's Lok Sabha strength stands at 299, and the government needs about 360 votes to pass a Constitution Amendment Bill for 33% women's reservation and an 816-seat Lok Sabha while being assured of only 319.
