Bharat Pensioners Samaj Seeks Quarterly DA, DR Revision
In India, people who work for the government get money after they retire, called a pension.
There is a group called the Bharat Pensioners Samaj that speaks up for almost one million of these retired people.
Retired people also get an extra payment called Dearness Relief, which helps when prices go up.
Right now, that extra payment comes twice a year.
The group asked leaders to give it every three months instead.
They also asked for the smallest pension to be ₹45,000 every month.
They want everyone who retires around the same time to get similar money, even if they retired on different dates.
A special committee called the Pay Commission decides these things.
The committee started in November 2025 and will finish its report by the middle of 2026.
The government will make the final decision on all these requests.
Bharat Pensioners Samaj (BPS), representing nearly 10 lakh pensioners, urged the 8th Pay Commission to revise Dearness Allowance (DA) and Dearness Relief (DR) every three months instead of twice a year.
BPS proposed a minimum pension of ₹45,000, minimum basic pay of ₹69,000 and a 3.83 fitment factor, along with a 5.2 weighted-unit family formula.
The union wants DR merged with basic pension once it crosses 25% and a review of pay and pensions every five years instead of ten.
Demands were submitted at a meeting with Commission officials on 7 August, including pension parity for those retiring before and after 1 January 2026.
The 8th Pay Commission, headed by Justice Ranjana Prakash Desai, was constituted on 3 November 2025 with an 18-month mandate and is expected to table its final report around May-June 2026.
