Collector launches community water sharing initiative in Nallamada
A new program is helping farmers share water with one another.
It began in Gopepalli village in Sri Sathya Sai District.
Four farmers agreed to send irrigation water through pipelines to 10 farmers who lacked enough water.
Collector A Shyam Prasad praised their effort.
He asked other villages to try the same idea.
He also said farmers should not grow paddy using borewell water.
Instead, he suggested crops such as horse gram.
Farmers were also told to record their crops online and build ponds to collect rainwater.
Sri Sathya Sai District Collector A Shyam Prasad inaugurated the Community Water Sharing initiative at Gopepalli village.
The initiative was organized by the REDS NGO on Tuesday.
Four farmers volunteered to supply irrigation water through pipelines to 10 water-deprived farmers.
The Collector urged other villages to adopt the model to address groundwater depletion.
He banned paddy cultivation with borewell water and advised alternative crops, e-Crop registration, and farm ponds.
