Tamil Nadu Mandates Plastic Packaging EPR Registration
The Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board has told companies that use plastic packaging to register for a special program called Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR) by 31 January 2026.
This program makes sure that companies take care of the plastic waste from their products by recycling, reusing, or disposing of it in an environmentally friendly way.
The rule was made by the Indian government in 2022 to help reduce plastic pollution.
Companies need to fill out an application with all the required details on a special website.
Tamil Nadu Pollution Control Board (TNPCB) mandates registration for EPR for plastic packaging by 31 January 2026.
Applicable entities include Medium and Large Producers, Importers, Brand Owners, Sellers, Manufacturers, Micro and Small Producers, and Plastic Waste Processors.
EPR policy requires companies to manage plastic packaging waste through recycling, reuse, or environmentally sound disposal methods.
The guideline was notified by the Ministry of Environment, Forest and Climate Change on 16 February 2022.
Companies must submit applications on the centralised EPR portal for plastic packaging.
