Man wanted in POCSO case arrested after 8 years
The police in New Delhi were looking for a man for almost eight years.
The case against him began in 2018.
That year, a teenage girl went missing from her home in New Delhi.
Her mother reported it to the police, and a case was opened.
The police learned the girl had run away with a man she called her boyfriend.
The man was an adult and the girl was only 16 years old.
In India, it is against the law for an adult to have that kind of relationship with a child.
The girl later said they had married and had a baby daughter.
Sadly, the girl became sick with tuberculosis and passed away in 2024.
The police never stopped searching for the man and finally caught him in the city of Pune, so he will now have to face the court.
A man wanted in a rape and POCSO case for nearly eight years was arrested from Pune.
The 32-year-old accused, identified as Sagar alias Sumit, was apprehended on August 6 from Burde Basti in Pune.
He allegedly eloped with the victim in 2018 when she was 16 and later married her.
The victim died in 2024 from tuberculosis; she had earlier said the couple had a daughter.
The case was registered at Anand Parbat police station in February 2018 after the minor girl's mother complained she had gone missing.
