Tamil Nadu unveils first Agriculture Budget with super El Nino plan
The government of Tamil Nadu has made a special plan to help farmers grow food safely.
This plan is called an Agriculture Budget.
Weather might become very unusual and difficult, which could make it harder for plants to grow.
Scientists looked at forecasts and found 12 areas in Tamil Nadu that might have more trouble.
The government has a group of farming experts, called Tamil Nadu Agricultural University, who will advise farmers on what to do.
The plan is to handle changes in rain and temperature so crops stay healthy.
Farmers were asked for their ideas before the plan was made.
It continues older programs that helped farmers and adds new ones.
The goal is to keep farms strong even if the weather becomes difficult.
The TVK government presented its first Agriculture Budget for 2026-27 in the Tamil Nadu State Legislative Assembly on Thursday.
Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister R. Vinoth said forecasts identify 12 districts as particularly vulnerable to a potential super El Niño event.
A coordinated action plan developed by the Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU) will guide interventions in vulnerable areas.
The budget was formulated after consultations with farmers and other agricultural stakeholders.
Existing agricultural welfare schemes will continue alongside new initiatives to strengthen resilience and productivity.
